The Gold Bar
Liberty of London
For 20 years, my whole world has been designing and innovating jewellery. I catapulted into my dream when I became Liberty of London’s Millennium Designer, placing me on billboards all over the globe. I experienced the excitement of the fashion industry, working with brilliant minds and inspirational brands. That world collapsed in the blink of an eye.
I became a mother, but instead of this being a joyous occasion, I was abandoned and left alone with a sick boy. I lost my business, my source of income, my home, and everything I had built. My life fell apart, with all my choices being taken from me. Losing my independence shattered my self-esteem.
This is my bar of strength
During this challenging time, I saw the world from a very different place. I reached an all-time low. I desperately needed to rebuild my esteem, my inspiration, and my passion. I missed what I loved doing most: designing.
An image kept appearing in my mind for no explainable reason: it was a gold bar. I started to draw it, imagining how I could bring it to a solid form. I didn’t realise for a long time what it meant, until I reflected on my journey. The bar was propelling me forward, back into my creativity and what I loved doing most.
